Additional Info:

Record taken from a transcription by Edna Barrowclough in 1976.

This cemetery is between one and two acres in size.  In 1860 land was donated by John Barrowclough from the southwest corner of his farm for a church and cemetery.  The church was built that year and some graves moved from plots on local farms.

In 1892 more land was purchased from John Barrowclough to enlarge the cemetery.  Lots in the new part were marked off in half lots and for the most part in the old section, in whole lots.  In the beginning of the 20th century it was very much neglected, but in the 1930's a Sunday school class of young people began a clean up.  It was a long chore.  By 1939, rubbish was cleared off and 500 white pine trees planted.  In 1978 these form a fine background, although many have died.  It was kept in order by these young people for many years by voluntary labour and all funds deposited to grow into a perpetuity fund.  When the church was closed in 1969, the cemetery came under the authority of the congregation at Welcome, but the former Wesleyville cemetery board continued to care for it and administer the

income of the fund.  An annual bee is held, caretaker hired and audited statement given each year to the church authorities.

Stones were listed in the 1930's, since then many have become illegible.

The southwest section of the cemetery was the free portion.  It is supposedly full, but only two names known.  Also some along the fence on the south portion of west fence.

This cemetery was photographed and updated in May 2020 by Ron Smith.
