Additional Info:

Record taken from transcription by Susan Bergeron and updated by a site check by LGS members in October 1996.

In 1861, Thomas and Aurilla Webb sold one acre of land for the consideration of $20 to the trustees of the Salem congregation of the Weslyan Methodist Church of Canada.  Those trustees were William Jaques, John Turney, Joseph Jaques, Isaac Gould, Ira Brown, William Brown, and Stephen Turney.  Most of this acre would have been used for the church but at this time some must have been used as a burial ground.  In 1909, an additional two acres was purchased for more burying ground.  The trustees at that time were Robert Snetsinger, Frederick H. McConnell, and William H. Cochrane.  A practical trust and purchase was completed in 1915 for 3/4 of an acre from the widow of Mark T. Ventress for $190.00.  The trustees were the same as in 1909.  One year later in 1916, another trust from Joseph Bellamy and F.H.  McConnell of two acres was received by the then trustees Robert Snetsinger, William A. Cochrane, and Frederick W. McConnell.  The most recent grant was issued in 1974 from Mr.  and Mrs.  W. Whaley.  A total of 7 and 3/4 acres comprises the land for Salem Church and Cemetery.

There is an unconfirmed story that remains from an old cemetery located C1 L20 in Cramahe were relocated to the Salem cemetery.  The only name that area residents could remember from the old cemetery was Coffee.
