Additional Info:

Hicksite Friends Cemetery, located at 20 Wellington St.  Bloomfield, ON, at the corner of Wellington St.  and Wesley Acres Road.  In 1828, the influence of evangelical Methodism and forces inside the Society of Friends brought about a separation in American and Canadian Quakerism, according to History of the Churches of Prince Edward County.  The evangelical Quakers then became known as the Orthodox Friends while members of the Quietistic school (who stood for traditional freedom) were dubbed the Hicksite Friends after Elias Hicks, a Long Island preacher.  Prince Edward County was the main centre for the Hicksite Friends in Eastern Upper Canada in the early 19th century.  The Hicksite Friends secured a lot from Stephen White on the west end of Bloomfield and a Meeting House was built in 1834-35.  Although the building was removed in 1931, the land is still marked as the Hicksite Cemetery.  This cemetery, which is in good condition, is nearing permanent capacity.
