Additional Info:

Cherry Valley Cemetery is located along county road 10 in the

village of Cherry Valley.  Col.  Henry Young, the first white man to settle in Prince Edward County after whom Fort Henry, Kingston, was named, was buried in this cemetery, located in Cherry Valley.  The cemetery surrounds the Cherry Valley United Church (built in 1862) - the first Wesleyan Methodist Church in Prince Edward County.  Land for the Cherry Valley cemetery, which pre-dates the church, was donated by the Ogden family and Richard Hare.  Col.  Young (b.  1737) joined the British Army at a young age and fought during the Seven Years' War.  After peace was proclaimed in 1763, Young left the army, only to rejoin at the outbreak of the Revolutionary War.  After the war Young and his family joined the movement of Loyalists to Canada and settled on the west side of East Lake.
