Notes

Mavis Lily Bird was born on October 6, 1917 in Wrentham, Suffolk, England. Not much is known about Mavis, except for information found in a newspaper article from the Hope Standard on October 12, 2017 celebrating her 100th birthday.

Link for reference: www.hopestandard.com/community/hope-woman-who-turned-100-remembers-shooting-german-planes-down-2028564

The article mentions that Mavis was the only person living in Hope, British Columbia who had reached a triple digit age and that she celebrated her 100th birthday at the Riverside Manor. Mavis was born at the tailend of the First World War enlisted and served as a Lance Corporal in the WWII, serving as a spotter for air-craft gunners and telling the gunners which way to point. She served in the British Army for seven years, entering when she was 23 and left when she was 30 in 1955. Mavis was the second wife of Ken Wannamaker and after Ken died, Mavis moved to Hope, British Columbia with her step-daughter and her step-daughters husband. It is unknown if Mavis was buried in Carrying Place Cemetery with her husband, because there is no obituary or death record available online as of 2024.
